Kathy
Crowther's creative formula combines her love of nature - and its exacting
details- with a fascination for geometric designs. "To capture nature's
emotion with paper and paint is my passion. Painting has made me more
aware of my surroundings and the amazing details of color, shape, and texture
that encircle us all. Nature's bounty and all it's wonders are the soul
of my work." My paintings range from formal portraits of
egrets, herons and peacocks to whimsical renderings of parrots, sea turtles,
and ocean creatures with paisley borders and brilliant color combinations that
add freshness to the subjects.
South Carolina is heaven! I never dreamed of a place that comes close to
the "Low Country". Lush marshes are filled with birds of many
species - great blue herons, little blue herons, great egrets, snowy egrets and
ibis, to name a few. Marsh edges provide homes for blue-birds and wrens.
Spanish moss provides a dramatic visual image, romantic yet spooky, as it sways
in the wind and reminds me of the explorers beards. The leaf shapes of
palms, live oaks, and bamboo are intriguing. The resurrection fern's
miracle is a favorite - it changes from brown to green as it is revived by
rain. Islands and beaches are only minutes away -- where a causal stroll
expands into the excitement of filling bags with tiny treasures.
One of my favorite anecdotes occurred at an outdoor art show where a group of
fellow artists and I overheard a grandmother warn her grandaughter, "You
better work harder at school or you'll wind up like these gypsies traveling
from town to town!" I've had the pleasure of exhibiting at many
shows over the years and always have found new friends among the artists and
patrons.
